The block construction prevails in this Alpine region. Here we find large, multi-storey houses with canopies on the façade, which protect the individual rows of windows. The elevated ground floor is accessible from the side via external steps.

However, houses with low-pitched shingle roofs covered with heavy stones, so-called “Täsch” roofs can also still be found here and there in Obwalden.
