The multipurpose house (living quarters, stalls and barn) can only be found in this form in the Jura. It is mostly flat and extended, with whitewashed walls and small irregular windows.

It is a multipurpose building which is surrounded by walls made of Jura limestone. An arched doorway opens into a hallway that provides access to the living quarters and the animal stalls. The “sous-grange” serves simultaneously as a cart shed, storage area and workplace. In its interior, the farmhouse is an all-wood post-and-beam structure.
Originally the houses were only one-storey buildings. A loft was used for storing grain for bread, animal feed and seed. A small room provided accommodation for servants and harvest workers. With the slight pitch of the roof, a remarkable wide-gabled structure is produced.
